Grandparents Group takes place every spring and fall. Open to the community, the virtual 12-week program provides support and resources for grandparents, non-custodial caregivers and guardians who are raising children.
Topics include:
- understanding the new role both challenges and rewards.
- understanding the legal system in reference to caring for grandchildren.
- promoting personal well-being, self-care, and understanding emotions.
- refining parenting skills, understanding child-developmental stages and positive discipline; building relationships through effective communication skills, intrapersonal connections, and conflict resolution.
- working with school and community – how to navigate the school systems and accessing community resources; and
- money management.
In addition to the educational information provided, the goal of the group is to provide opportunities for members to connect with each other, lessen feelings of isolation and create community that can extend beyond our group setting. The meetings are run in English with one facilitator who is Spanish speaking.
